Man Utd agree £48million deal to seal first signing as player scheduled for medical today.

The Dutch international is inching closer to a £36 million ($46m) transfer from the Italian side to United, with the 23-year-old reportedly set to sign a five-year deal until 2029. Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg states that Zirkzee is undergoing a medical on Friday, and that he is ‘proud’ to join the Red Devils and wants the No.9 jersey.

Manchester United are on the brink of completing their first acquisition of the summer transfer period, having reached an agreement for Joshua Zirkzee. Italian sources indicate that United have negotiated a deal valued at £48 million to transfer the Dutch international from Bologna to Old Trafford.

Calcio Mercato reports that the 23-year-old forward has a release clause of €40 million, but United have consented to pay approximately €46 million. This payment will be spread over three years in installments. A portion of the initial €40 million will be directed to Bayern Munich, Zirkzee’s previous club, while Bologna will keep the extra €6 million.

AC Milan also expressed significant interest in signing Zirkzee but were deterred by the agent’s commission needed to seal the deal. Conversely, Manchester United have agreed to cover about €11 million in commission, a part of which will be allocated to Zirkzee’s family. This elevates the total expenditure for the deal to €57 million, or £48 million.

The Dutch international, who participated in Euro 2024 with the Netherlands squad, is anticipated to undergo a medical examination today. Last season, Manchester United lagged behind all top-half Premier League teams, except Crystal Palace, in goal-scoring. Securing Zirkzee is seen as a strategic move to strengthen their attack and should generate excitement among the fans.
