BREAKING STORY: He will be our third signing of the year, I can say that with great joy. He is, in fact, a highly gifted man; he reminds me of Andre Iniesta. Bruno Fernandes is already a huge supporter of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £100 million “third Manchester United transfer target,” even if they are just about to finalise their deal.

Reports suggest that Manchester United is preparing to pursue Benfica’s rising star, Joao Neves. At just 19 years old, Neves has already made a name for himself as a talented holding midfielder in European football.

This season, Neves has played in 27 matches, including six in the Champions League, making him a prime candidate for a high-profile transfer soon. He is currently under contract with Benfica until 2028, with a release clause set at €120 million (£103 million).

Despite the hefty price tag, Manchester United has identified Neves as a top target. According to The Mirror, United plans to “initiate talks” for a potential summer transfer of Neves, considering him a “priority investment” following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a 25 percent stake in the club and his subsequent control over football operations.

The club is set to lay the groundwork for a move to secure Neves and fend off competition for his signature. This strategic move comes as United looks to bolster their midfield, especially with Casemiro nearing his 32nd birthday and Sofyan Amrabat expected to be a short-term loan signing.

Benfica’s manager, Roger Schmidt, has stated that none of his key players will leave during the January transfer window. However, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has expressed his enthusiasm for Neves potentially joining the club. Speaking to Sport TV, Fernandes said, “He is of the highest caliber, and I would be thrilled to have him at United! The decision, however, lies with João and the manager’s plans.”

Fernandes believes Neves has a bright future, whether it be at United or elsewhere. The Manchester Evening News reported in September that United aims to make significant acquisitions in four key areas during the upcoming summer, with central midfield being a priority despite the recent signings of Amrabat and Mason Mount.

In summary, Manchester United is keen on signing Joao Neves from Benfica, viewing him as a valuable addition to their squad. The club is prepared to make a substantial investment to secure the young midfielder, who has already shown promise in his performances this season.
