Updates on viktor Gyokeres’ transfer to Arsenal this summer

Arsenal is on the lookout for a new striker and has been heavily linked with Sporting Lisbon superstar Viktor Gyokeres – who scored a remarkable 43 goals last season

Arsenal is pushing forward with its plans to sign Viktor Gyokeres before the transfer deadline.

The Premier League runner-up was always anticipated to bring in a new striker this summer, but had to change course after its top target, Benjamin Sesko, decided to renew his contract with Red Bull Leipzig just before Euro 2024.

Since then, Arsenal has been linked with several high-profile forwards, including Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen, with the former now appearing more likely to make the move to the Emirates before the month’s end.

According to a recent report from Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal is active on Gyokeres and not Napoli’s Osimhen. Both Arsenal and Chelsea have been suggested as possible landing spots for the latter striker in recent weeks.

But for the Gunners, securing Gyokeres following his impressive debut season with Sporting Lisbon in Portugal seems to be the strategy ahead of the new Premier League season. Gyokeres, 26, netted an impressive 43 goals in 50 matches for Sporting last season after transferring from Championship side Coventry City.

Last month, it was revealed that Sporting had opted to decrease Coventry’s sell-on percentage, leading to rumors that the Portuguese heavyweights were preparing to capitalise on Gyokeres’ high market value.

Arsenal has secured David Raya on a full-time contract and finalized a deal for Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori this summer. In addition to seeking a new striker, the Gunners are also looking to strengthen their midfield and have pinpointed Euro 2024 champion Mikel Merino as their prime target, although the Spanish player is also on Barcelona’s radar.
