English football pundit Martin Keown reveals the reason why Arsenal Lost the Premier League title race
Arsenal legend Martin Keown has pinpointed Unai Emery’s “desperation” to beat his former team as the key factor in Arsenal’s failure to win the Premier League title this season. Keown believes Emery’s desire to outdo his old club led to Arsenal dropping crucial points against Aston Villa, ultimately costing them the title.
Manchester City’s 3-1 win over West Ham on the final day of the season secured their fourth consecutive Premier League title, leaving Arsenal two points behind. Keown attributes Arsenal’s failure to win the league to their losses against Villa, both home and away, which he believes were influenced by Emery’s eagerness to prove a point against his former employers.
“Unai Emery was desperate to beat Arsenal, and that desperation cost them the title,” Keown said on talkSPORT. “He took six points away from them, and that was the difference in the end.” Keown also praised Manchester City’s determination, particularly Rodri’s, saying, “They want to send a message that they’re the best, and they do it year after year.”
Keown’s comments highlight the fine margins that can decide the outcome of a season. Arsenal’s close proximity to the title this year suggests they are on the right trajectory, and Keown encourages the team to use this season’s disappointment as fuel for future success. As he puts it, “If I were an Arsenal player, I’d take a break, reflect, and use this as motivation to rise from the ashes and keep pushing until we win.”
