Erik ten Hag has already made his feelings clear on Manchester United signing Xavi Simons this summer

Manchester United are reportedly considering a loan deal for Dutch attacker Xavi Simons, and Erik ten Hag has already shared his opinion on the PSG player.

United are currently navigating their inaugural summer transfer window under the new ownership of INEOS at Old Trafford, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe holding more than a 25% stake and wielding full control over transfer activities and football operations following a takeover earlier this year.

There were uncertainties surrounding Ten Hag’s future after the season concluded, despite Manchester United’s FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City, given the club’s lowest Premier League finish in eighth place.

Following a strategic review, Manchester United decided to continue with Erik ten Hag as manager and recently exercised an option to extend his contract until the summer of 2026. With managerial uncertainties resolved, the club has shifted focus to improving the squad, and progress has been made on a couple of transfer deals.

Striker Joshua Zirkzee has undergone a medical examination after United reached a reported agreement of £33.7 million with Bologna for the Dutch international, making him poised to become the club’s first new signing of the summer.

Additionally, United have reportedly reached personal terms with Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, while negotiations continue with Bayern over a fee of approximately £42 million for the centre-back’s transfer.

Another player Manchester United could potentially sign this summer to strengthen their squad is Xavi Simons, the Netherlands and PSG attacker who recently scored for the Dutch team in their Euro 2024 semi-final loss to England.

According to the Mirror, Manchester United are considering a loan move for Xavi Simons, which PSG are reportedly open to, but with an obligation to buy him next summer. Erik ten Hag, the United manager, appears to be impressed by Simons, as indicated by recent comments praising the 21-year-old and his performance against England in Euro 2024.

Ten Hag said, “I enjoyed watching Xavi Simons in that game. His determination, passion in winning balls, and ability to read situations are excellent. His immense drive is noteworthy, almost uncharacteristic for a Dutch player. You can see he has been trained abroad, displaying a southern European tenacity in his game.”

The training Ten Hag refers to with Simons is him coming through the youth teams ranks at Barcelona, before he was bought by PSG in 2019, and he spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig.
