Update of De Ligt transfer to Manchester United this summer
Bayern Munich are reportedly on the verge of signing Jonathan Tah to pave the way for Matthijs de Ligt to join Manchester United.
United are said to have made a joint bid for De Ligt and his club teammate, Noussair Mazraoui. The German giants seemingly swiftly turned down that offer, though. However, the tide may soon turn in United’s favour, with Bayern nearing a deal to sign a potential replacement.
De Ligt notably came of age under Erik ten Hag at Ajax. The then-teenager progressed through the club’s esteemed academy before making his name at the core of their backline.
Kicker reports they have reached a ‘clear agreement’ with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Tah. The two clubs have reputedly agreed a deal, with Bayern set to pay an initial £25 million upfront and potentially another £4.2 million in add-ons.
Although the report claims Bayern will only finalise the move if De Ligt goes to United. The defender is valued at around £43m by his current club, but United are unwilling to meet this valuation. The two clubs are said to be ‘quite a way apart’, but negotiations are seemingly ongoing, and only time will tell if they can reach a compromise.
Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Max Eberl, has played down the rumours about De Ligt, noting earlier this month that he would not further fuel any discussions over the player’s standing. “I will comment on the reasons when the time comes,” Eberl clarified.
